Age Group Changes (from September 2010)
You can read about the changes to age-groups on the LTA website
by clicking here: LTA.org.uk
Updated information released in May 2010 can be found here:
http://www.lta.org.uk/Resources/Competition/Competition%20Age%20Groups%20FAQs_May.pdf
In short, the age-group changes for Mini Tennis have been put
in place so that players can only play against others who are no more than 6 months older than themselves, making for
a fairer balance between the physical and mental development of players.
Currently, as the competition structure
is based on Year of Birth, it is possible that someone born on 1st January 2002 could play against someone born on 31st December
2002. This would give the January-born player almost a years' worth of physical and mental development, as well
as potentially a year's extra coaching and competition experience. The new structure will stop this from happening,
and will start with the 2010 Winter Season, starting 1st September 2010.
To work out which colour / competition
you will be playing in for the next 4 seasons, use the Age-Group-Calculator or download our Age-Group Matrix for the coming 4 seasons (2
years). Go down to the box where the players' date of birth is and work across to see the competition age-groups
they can play in for the coming 4 seasons:
